DINWIDDIE – A Dinwiddie Middle School student is facing significant disciplinary action after being found with a BB gun in their possession Friday morning.

According to school officials, around 8:30, administrators at Dinwiddie Middle School received a report that a male student was in possession of a BB gun. The school’s administrators and resource officer immediately located the student who turned it over without incident.

School division spokesperson Christie Clarke said Friday’s incident appears to be an isolated incident and no threat to students or staff exists.

The unidentified male student is expected to face consequences in accordance to state law and the school division’s code of conduct for students.

“We commend the students that reported the weapon to school staff,” Clarke said. “The safety of students and staff is the number one priority of Dinwiddie County Public Schools and anyone who compromises that will be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law.”

Friday was the first day students returned to class following Sunday’s snowfall.
