Chamber of Commerce awards scholarships

The Dinwiddie County Chamber of Commerce is delighted to present three $500 scholarships annually to graduating students from Dinwiddie High School. The funds for the scholarship in large part are generated from registration fees paid by participants in the Dinwiddie County Christmas Parade. The Class of 2016 Dinwiddie County Chamber of Commerce Scholarship winners are Jacob Beville, Kayleigh Moore, and Canaan Mills.

Jacob Beville is the son of Richard Beville Jr. and is planning to attend Virginia State University in the fall to study agriculture. Jacob is a member of the National Honor Society and has served as Student Council officer to include secretary, vice president, and president. He is a four year letterman in volleyball and tennis as well as a letter winner in wrestling. Jacob is a member of Sharon Baptist Church and the Dinwiddie 4-H Archery club. He has consistently participated in community service and volunteer work throughout his high school career.

Kayleigh Morre is the daughter of Dr. Mark Moore and Sandra Moore. She will be attending Virginia Tech University in the fall with the desired major of microbiology and hopes to go to pharmacy school and some day own her own pharmacy. Kayleigh is an active member of the National Honor Society, Science Club, ACT, and SODA, 100 milers club as well as Dinwiddie High School Honor Band and Marching Band for seven years. She is the founding member of Tri-M Music Honor Society at Dinwiddie High School. Kayleigh is an active member of West End Baptist Church and has worked the past two summers at Sutherland Manor Swim Club as a certified lifeguard.

Canaan Mills is the son of Deborah and Billy Mills. He plans to attend Iowa State University in the fall to study Geology. Canaan is graduating #1 in the Class of 2016 out 305 students with a GPA of 4.6. During his high school career Canaan has been an active member of the Varsity football team, Wrestling team, Model United Nations, Science club, Forensics Club, Book Club, and National Honor Society Member. He held the position of Captain on both the football and wrestling team his junior and senior years. He served as tutor for fellow athletes and participated in multiple community service projects. He is a four year letter winner in both Wrestling and Football and a three time state qualifier in wrestling. Canaan is an Eagle Scout. His Eagle scout project was a three part aromatherapy garden that consists of a Herb garden, an Aromatherapy garden, and Butterfly garden that he constructed at the Dinwiddie Health and Rehabilitation Center.

The Dinwiddie Chamber of Commerce salutes the Dinwiddie High School Class of 2016 and wishes each of you the very best of luck in all of their future endeavors. The Dinwiddie Chamber of Commerce holds membership meetings the second Wednesday of every month at the Eastside Enhancement Center. The community is encouraged to join us July 13, 2016 when the Chamber will host a blood drive from 11am to 3pm at the Eastside Enhancement Center. The 2016 Dinwiddie Christmas Parade will be December 10, 2016 with a rain date of December 11, 2016. The theme this year is ”Tis the reason for the season”.
