DINWIDDIE – Dinwiddie standout track and field star, Ty’Rize Claud, had the most memorable day on his home track on Thursday, May 3, 2018. After winning the 110m Hurdles in a season best of 14.90, the coaching staff, along with his mother, placed a table at the finish line with hurdles still on the track. There, he signed his National Letter of Intent to attend Mars Hill University. Ty’Rize went on to win the 300m hurdles and placed 4th in the triple jump. This signing was extremely special because Ty’Rize was sidelined with severe stomach issues during indoor season which kept him from training for an extended period of time.
According to Coach Young, “He is behind in our training plan by about a month.”
Mars Hill University is a private, coed, liberal arts university. The university is located in the town of Mars Hill, North Carolina, 15 miles (24 km) north of Asheville. The university is part of the Asheville metropolitan area. Mars Hill University offers 35 majors, including a school of nursing and a graduate school in education.

Ty’Rize will pursue a degree in Criminal Justice while competing in track and field. The Dinwiddie senior has a 3.5GPA and can boast as a two-time conference champion, one-time regional champion, and three-time all-state in the hurdles. During his four years at Dinwiddie, Ty’Rize has competed in cross-country, indoor track and outdoor track and field.
Ty’Rize credits this opportunity to the hard work and dedication of his mom and brother Keandre McClary who is himself a sophomore athlete on the Dinwiddie Track team. He also would like to thank his coaches, Coach Weaver who is his cross-country, and his track coaches; Coach Young, Coach Gibson, Coach Ridley, and Coach Kearney.
Dinwiddie’s coaching staff is extremely happy for Ty’Rize and let him know the journey has just begun. They wish him all the best as he finishes out his final season in high school and in his matriculation to the next level.
