DINWIDDIE – The Dinwiddie Sheriff’s Office is in the early stages of a homicide investigation following a suspicious death in the county days earlier.

The body 23-year-old Zackary Elan Scott was found along Rainey Creek Road near the Town of McKenney in the morning hours of May 20. While few details have been revealed by authorities, they did say Scott has ties to the Prince George and Hopewell area and the case is being treated as a homicide.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact Dinwiddie County Sheriff’s Office at 804-469-4550 or Petersburg/Dinwiddie Crime Solvers at 804-861-1212.

This is the first homicide in Dinwiddie County since 2018 when teenager Ke’Asia Adkins was found dead in a wooded area behind her North Dinwiddie home in late June of that year. Weeks earlier, a Dinwiddie businessman Umar Salaam was killed in an armed robbery near his car detailing business along U.S. Route 1.
