DINWIDDIE – Friday morning’s storms and accompanying gusty winds have led to power outages across the region, resulting in Dinwiddie County’s Sunnyside Elementary closing early, school officials confirm.
Through their Twitter page, Dinwiddie County Public Schools announced Sunnyside ES would be closing early for the day due to a lack of electricity or phone service, with buses departing the school to return children home at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Parents wishing to pick up their child from school are asked to arrive at Sunnyside ES no later than 10:15 a.m.
Anyone with additional questions or immediate concerns regarding their child is asked to call the Dinwiddie School Board office at 804-469-4190.
A wind advisory is in effect for portions of Central Virginia, where winds are expected to gust to nearly 50 miles per hour through the remainder of the day. That wind has brought down power lines as Dominion Virginia Power reports, as of 10 a.m., over 39,000 customers are without power, with 2,400 of their 6,912 Dinwiddie customers among them.
