DINWIDDIE, Va -- Two COVID-19 grant programs for non-profit organizations located in Dinwiddie were approved by the County Board of Supervisors.

The board set aside $200,000 through the County’s CARES Act allocation to fund grants to churches and other eligible local non-profits to mitigate the impact on daily operation as a result of COVID-19. In addition to the board allocated funds for defogging kits to local churches and non-profits, those that already purchased those items will be reimbursed.

“Now more than ever, citizens depend on our faith-based community and non-profits for support. Through these grant programs, our goal is to provide assistance that will allow these organizations to fulfill their missions safely and effectively during the pandemic,” said Deputy County Administrator Tammie J. Collins.

Eligible entities for the grants are any 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), or 501(c)(6) organizations in Dinwiddie and non-profit non-stock corporations registered with the Virginia State Corporation Commission. Non-profits must have been established with a physical location in Dinwiddie County for at least 12 months.

Recipients can receive up to $10,000 for the use of PPE and/or disinfecting supplies/equipment, programs that address food insufficiency in the community, technology or other solutions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the county.

The non-profit COVID-19 Defogger Kit Program is meant to provide qualified non-profit entities with electrostatic sprayers, related equipment, and personal protective equipment and allowed entities to qualify for a COVID-19 defogger kit or the total cost of reimbursement of an electrostatic sprayer and associated supplies.

“Dinwiddie County is very fortunate to have a robust faith and non-profit community, dedicated to serving those in need,” said Dan Lee, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors. “These grant programs represent our commitment to supporting these organizations as they provide critical support to our citizens.”

Applicants for either grant program must submit a complete application to ed@dinwiddieva.us by Nov. 20. Distribution of defogger kits to qualifying entities will be Nov. 20 to Dec. 15.
